A message from club coach Stuart Evans:

Hello Guys,

We are now a family of three.

Malene Carolyn Bowden-Evans was born on the 26th July 2007 at 15:38 GMT. She weighed a healthy 7lb 5oz, or 3330 grammes in new money.

Astrid is fine and is now back at home, less than 24 hours after giving birth. Malene went straight to the breast after I cut the umbilical cord and she has been a proper star since. (it can't last)

If you want to visit etc please call me on 01344 427655 and I will make an appointment. This will save you a wasted journey and avoid disappointment when I can't squash any more visitors into the broom cupboard.

Love

Stuart, Astrid and Malene aged 1 day Xxxxx

23/07/07 - SNOB Charity Golf Challenge - The Aftermath

A message from ex-Chairman DOJ Davies:

A huge thank you to all those who came along and either played or contributed on the day, your generosity is much appreciated.

At Tee off circumstances had whittled us down to just 10 starters; so five a side it was - a Chairman's team captained by Barry Hall and the Ex Chairman's team captained by yours truly.

Remarkably the weather defied all the forecasts and the rain stayed away right through to 5.30 when we were playing the very last couple of holes. Scores in the morning's 9 holes were decidedly iffy with no one able to play to handicap though Kris Grimwood was closest with a steady 17 points and hit a massive drive on the Longest Drive hole, Barry Hall won the Nearest the Pin prize. Steve Marshall 'mashed' another huge drive to win the afternoon prize and only one of the nearest the Pin's was won with a shot that was almost worthy of the 'hole in one' it so nearly was from Neil Lunniss.

Player of the day was won by Andy Rumney, which is something of a coup for the lowest handicapper and not always the case. The team event was won by Barry Hall's Chairman's team and I will get the trophy engraved in the next week or so for display in the cabinet at ICC.

Special thanks to Chris Simmons for the bubbly and the donation, to Mark Hird for the wine and also to the two Stuarts who paid though didn't play and provided good humoured company by driving or walking the course, mind you it only started to rain once Telf put his waterproof on complaining he felt chilly!

A gentle reminder to those who, for a variety of reasons (some foreseen - others not), weren't able to make it - it is still not too late to make a donation to the cause. There are several ways you can sponsor me, give me cash when you see me, send me a cheque made out to me that I can then pay into an account set up with St Lukes charity, match funded by Royal Mail, or simply visit a page I have set up with Just Giving - http://www.justgiving.com/DOJDavies. and make a donation there.

I will be back in touch soon once I have settled the bill with Northwood GC to let you all know how much we raised on the day.

Once again a huge thanks to you all

Doj Davies

23/07/07 - SNOB Charity Golf Challenge - The Rider Cup @ Northwood GC

A message from ex-Chairman DOJ Davies:

Dear SNOB members past and present,

Want to take part in an inter club Golf challenge to raise money for charity then read on.

Many months ago in a moment of madness I signed up to cycle from London to Paris in aid of a charity of my choice. I chose St Luke's a local Hospice in Harrow.

The event takes place in September this year and I am now faced with two pretty big tasks before then, never mind the cycle itself. The first is to get myself fit enough to ride the 450km (about 320 miles in old money), it is not a relay, and for an old codger that wont be easy. I have started the training and am making good progress, the odd crash here and there apart. The second task is to raise sponsorship money and that is where I will need your help to reach my target of £1,100.00.

As a fun way to raise sponsorship I am arranging a Golf tournament "The Rider Cup" (deliberately spelt that way). This will be an all day event on Monday 23rd July 2007 at Northwood Golf Club. The format will be Presidents Team v SNOBs (ideally 12 per team - across 27 holes - first 9 will be Fourball - second 9 will be foursomes - final 9 will be singles. The winning team will receive the trophy 'The Rider Cup' and this could be the start of an annual event.

There will be refreshments provided throughout the day between each of 9 hole sessions with a light supper at the end followed by the presentation and one or two at the traditional 19th hole.

The cost of the day will be £60, about £15 of which will go to charity. I will collect monies on the day as either cash or cheque.

There will be other voluntary mini tournaments such as nearest the pin etc.

Please let me know if you would like to be part of this so that I can confirm arrangements with Northwood GC, who have kindly offered their facilities, as soon as possible.

To confirm attendance at this event please contact me by email or by phone. The work email would be best - david.j.davies@royalmail.com or my mobile phone number 07711 036065 is always on or goes to voicemail.

Kind Regards and looking forward to seeing you there.

Cheers

Doj
