Club History

St. Nicholas Old Boy's RFC was established in 1964. Despite recent success, SNOBs history has not always been a rosy one, and in the past SNOBs have known the depths of despair in terms of trying to raise one team. For many years they were a "wandering" side, and had various pitches at Hillingdon Court Park, Brookside Meadows, Hayes, Amarettos (then C & L Leisure but formerly B.A Silver Wing Club on the A40), shared a pitch with Uxbridge at Belfry Avenue and latterly at Ickenham CC and Haydon School, Northwood- almost a full circle for some of the old boys!

In 1994 The club ran 3 regular sides and a casual XV that played a couple of times a month. A youth XV was also formed which met with considerable success. In September the Haydon School Former Pupils Association held its 40th Anniversary bash. At the end of the 1994 summer the association donated £16,500 to the school in the form of excellent training lights and a floodlit area. This was just in time for the October training, and has already paid dividends several times over.

Tours have always been well supported, and have taken the Old Boys to such exotic locations as Scarborough, Bournemouth, Sidmouth, Forest of Deane, East Anglia, Torquay and Amsterdam (twice!)

The 2003/3 season saw one of the most successful season for SNOBs in recent years. The club saw an influx of talented young players, who began to fulfil their potential under the watchful eyes of an experienced rugby committee and a committed core of senior players. The league was won without losing a game, thus securing promotion. The club also reached the 4th round of the Middlesex Cup, and from there managed to reach the final of the Middlesex Federation Vase through a combination of hard-fought games and byes. The final was played against old adversaries London French at the beautiful Metropolitan Police ground at Imber Court, East Molesey on 3rd May 2003, and an entire coach full of supporters followed the team. SNOBs played their best rugby of the season, and the scores at full time were 12-12. However, fitness told over the next half an hour and breakaway tries from London French put the final score at 28-12, which did not reflect the closeness of the game. Although the result was disappointing, the occassion was a great end to the 2002/03 season.

The beginning of the 2003/4 season saw immediate success with the SNOBs Golf Team winning the National Rugby Club Golf Championship. The team consisted of (left to right) Steve Marshall, Dave Josey, Richard Josey and Andy Rumney. As well as winning the competiton that was open to all rugby clubs in the UK, the team also won a full set of rugby kit, courtesy of RAM Rugby. SNOBs finished 4th place in the Middlesex/Herts 3 North league, but again secured promotion due to league re-structuring. The highlight of the year though was the 31-0 victory over London Springboks in the Middlesex Vase Final.
